My daughter Jillian was an unemployed full-time student going to college in Radnor, PA. when she accidentally rear-ended my vehicle.  There were no injuries, both cars were drivable and no one called the police.  However, an officer driving by saw the accident and stopped.  Also of note, no traffic was stopped and no traffic had to be guided.  Both cars were off on the side of the road when the police stopped.  However, Jillian received a letter from Cost Recovery Corp. and the Radnor Township Police Dept. stating “You are responsible for this bill, which reflects the Safety Services costs incurred from your vehicular accident…”  The bill was for nearly $300.  We are not from that town and no one informed us that there would be charge.  This in essence was a back door tax on drivers that I refused to pay.

Always thought it was illegal to not inform police in case of involvement w/an auto accident.  Won’t a law like this create a lot of leaving the scene?  I would certainly think so.  Very poor law and must come from overworked police. If we call the sheriff will this also be inforced?????

Sorry, this is just one more way for the Government to double dip on the people.  If they are hurting for money why don’t they look at their paychecks, healthcare benefits, retirement plans, etc…..Since when did they forget when they were once oridnary everyday tax payers.

Yes this will definately increase the cost of insurance in the end - no different than if it costs more to repair your vehicle.  Its all an expense that the insurance companies will have to pay.

If you’re in an accident in Ocala, FL. you may be well advised to check not only your vehicle for damage, but also your wallet. In Feb. the local government will begin billing for accident response services. These fees amount to a form of double taxation. Billing insurers ultimately increases the cost of insurance. In many instances insurance contracts don’t cover the payment of these fees, so it’s often up to accident victims to pay. Charging for emergency services isn’t the solution.
